A Kano high court has ordered the Kano state house of assembly to stop the ongoing investigation by a panel it set up to investigate the bribery allegations against Abdullahi Ganduje, the state governor.
The panel is investigating the governor over allegations that he received bribe from contractors in dollars which was brought to public attention by an online publication last month.
The governor has since denied any wrong doing and failed to appear before the panel last Friday when he was summoned.
However, a pro-democracy group called Lawyers For Sustainable Democracy in Nigeria went to court to halt the investigation by the state Assembly.
Joined as defendants in the suit are the Kano assembly, the house committee investigating the allegation and the attorney-general and commissioner of justice in the state.
At the court on Monday, the presiding judge, A.T Badamasi ordered the assembly to suspend the probe.
The Judge gave the order while ruling on an ex parte application by one Muhammad Zubair, the National Coordinator of Lawyers for Sustainable Democracy in Nigeria.
He also issued a four-day ultimatum for the respondents to respond to the application and ordered the parties involved to ‘maintain status quo ante’ pending the hearing of the motion on notice.
The case was subsequently adjourned till Monday, November, 12 for the hearing.
