Our reporter/ The House of Representatives has urged urged proponents of the proposed nationwide protest to shelve the plan and consider patience and dialogue with the government instead.
This followed a motion of urgent national importance raised by Honourable Ibrahim Isiaka at plenary on Thursday.
The lawmakers agreed that the challenges are not unique to Nigeria, stressing that the road to change is not easy.
They called on Nigerians not to lose sight of the reforms and strides made by the government toward a more prosperous nation.
The deputy ppeaker, Benjamin Kalu, while supporting the motion in his contribution, stated that one year of the President Bola Tinubu administration, is not enough to fix the problems of the country.
He moved a motion for the house to sacrifice 50 per cent of their salaries for the next six months to support Nigerians.
Kalu revealed that members of the house earn N600,000 monthly as salaries.
Also on Thursday, the green chamber resolved to investigate an alleged plot by International Oil Companies (IOCs) to frustrate the operations of Dangote refinery.
This followed a matter of urgent national importance raised by the Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda.
The lower chamber expressed worry that there could be an ongoing manipulation of the price of local crude, preventing the Dangote refinery from buying locally, thereby affecting the cost of the refined product.
The lawmakers also said it would investigate the actual percentage of the Federal Government’s shares in Dangote refinery.
According to Chinda, Dangote had said Nigeria owns 7.3 per cent as against the 20 per cent shares claim because the Federal Government was unable to meet its own obligations.
Thereafter, the green chamber urged the Ministry of Petroleum Resources to intervene in the situation to ensure the success of the Dangote refinery for the good of the country.
