Reps to summon Buhari over Bornu killings

By our reporter| The House of Representatives on Tuesday passed a resolution to invite President Muhammadu Buhari to brief the house on the true state of the security situation in Nigeria.

The decision reached at plenary on Tuesday was in response to Saturday’s massacre of 43 rice farmers in the state by Boko Haram insurgents.

House members from Bornu had earlier moved a motion on the attack that attracted worldwide condemnation.

The debate had earlier turned rowdy after the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila explained that it would be inappropriate and counter productive to invite the president to disclose the actions being taken to tackle the security situation in the country.

Some members of the House were opposed to the speaker’s position and this turned into a rowdy debate.

His amendment was seconded and unanimously adopted.

The House did not, however, fix any date for the invitation.
