Rivers assembly elect new speaker, suspends chief judge, all LG chairmen

Our reporter/ The Former Majority leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Edison Ehie has emerged the new speaker.

Shortly after the election of the new speaker, the announced the suspension of Chibuzor Amadi, chief judge of the state.

Governor Fubara was subsequently directed by the house to appoint an acting chief judge immediately.

The development is the latest to unfold in the chaos that has trailed the rumours of attempts to impeach Fubara.

Late on Sunday night a fire had gutted a section of the assembly complex and the main chamber.

On Monday, the house removed its leader, Edison Ehie, allegedly as part of the plot to impeach the governor.

The state executive council has also been dissolved.
