He tweeted,“Saudi Authorities release Mallam Ibrahim Abubakar to the Nigerian Consulate in Jeddah, KSA. He was arrested over alleged drug trafficking, the same offence as Zainab Habib Aliyu, who was also released recently.”

Ahmad did not disclose the details of Abubakars release but Suleiman Mustapha, permanent secretary of the ministry of foreign affairs, had earlier said that his release was imminient.

The release of Abubakar who spent four months in prison, comes two days after Zainab Aliyu, a student of Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano, held for alleged possession of illicit drugs was freed by the Saudi Authorities following the intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari.
