Senate President Ahmad Lawan has following massive opposition by members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) withdrawn the appointment of Festus Adedayo as his special adviser on media.
In a statement on Thursday, Mohammed Isa, special assistant on media to the senate president, said Lawan had decided to rescind Adedayo’s appointment.
The statement read, “The office of the President of the Senate has reviewed the appointment of Mr. Festus Adedayo as Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the President of the Senate and decided to rescind its decision on the appointment, and wishes Mr. Adebayo the best in his future endeavours.”
The senate president earlier in the week appointed Festue Adedayo as his special adviser on media and publicity.
The appointment, however, did not go down well with a large section of the ruling APC supporters who launched a massive campaign on social media, asking that the appointment of Adebayo be rescinded.
A group known as APC stakeholders even accused the senate president of rewarding enemies of President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.
In the words of Abu Andrew, spokesman of the group, Adebayo’s appointment and retention of Saraki’s former media aides, Olu Onemola and Tope Olowoyeye were “glaring” reward to people who have insulted Buhari.
