AN Ibadan based businesswoman, Adejoke Adepoju, has told a Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan to dissolve her seven year-old union to her husband, Rasheed, due to his “self-centredness” and laziness.
In her petition to the court, Adejoke, a resident of Orita-Aperin area of Ibadan and a mother of two, said that her husband’s laziness and “self-centredness” was crippling her business.
“Little did I know that the man I chose as an husband seven years ago was nothing more than a cheap opportunist and an undeserving partner.
“As the first child of my family, my father so loved me and he gave me all that I needed even when I was in the university.
“I decided to entrust my business enterprise to Rasheed since we have agreed to marry each other when I am eventually through from school.
“To further assure him, I dropped my ATM card with Rasheed in case he was in need of money.
“After our wedding, I discovered that Rasheed became so dependent on me that he was no longer willing to get a job.
“Then, his laziness began to have negative effects on my business to the extent that I was finding it difficult to pay house rent.
“Times without number, I told Rasheed to get a job, butt he kept giving excuses and even dribbling me at other times.
“It is noteworthy to state that Rasheed acquired over N100,000 contribution which he made without my knowledge, but he also squandered it.
“In addition, Rasheed’s younger brother also stays with us and he is equally lazy.
“That guy usually finishes any food I put in the kitchen before I return from my shop, despite the fact that I give him N200 every day.
“Worst still, I am solely responsible for the children’s sustenance.
“All the property in the house belongs to me, but Rasheed has turned them all to his and has even changed the key to the apartment.
“When I reported him to his parents, they advised me to file a divorce suit against him may be he would change for the better.
“In fact, the children cannot recognise him as a father,” Adejoke said.
However, the respondent could not be found when he was called to respond to the allegations against him.
The court’s bailiff informed the arbitrator that he had served hearing notices on Rasheed on several times. (NAN)
