Chidi Samuel || The Southern governor’s forum ended their one-day meeting in Lagos on Monday with a call for devolution of powers to states from the central government.
The governors while reiterating their committment to the development of the country also stated their belief in a united and indivisible Nigeria.
Monday’s meeting came twelve years after the last Southern governors meeting were held in Lagos.
The meeting’s communique was read by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos, who stated that the governors reiterated their commitment to true federalism and devolution of powers.
The summit also appointed Mr. Ambode as chairman of the forum and governors Dave Umahi of Ebonyi and Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa as co-chairmen.
The Governors who attended the meeting include the Six Southwest Governors, Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode; Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose; Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun; Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu; Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola and Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi.
Others are the Governors of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike; Edo State, Godwin Obaseki; Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu; Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; Akwa Ibom State, Emmanuel Udom and Ebonyi State, David Umahi.
Anambra, Imo, and Cross River States were represented by their Deputy Governors.
