Supreme court dismisses Saraki’s trial at CCT

The Supreme Court on Friday cleared the Senate President Bukola Saraki of all allegation of false asset declaration filed against him by the federal government.

According to the apex court, Saraki has no case to answer at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

The CCT had earlier struck out the alleged false assets declaration charges against the Kwara politician but the federal government appealed against the judgement and appelate court upheld all but three of the charges, returning them to the Tribunal for retrial.

The Senate president contested the verdict of the Court of Appeal at the Supreme Court, arguing that  Saraki had no case to answer.

The Supreme Court in its verdict Friday read by Justice Centus Ugwueze upheld the verdict of the CCT, stating that the Court of Appeal panel engaged in “forensic somersault” when it held that  Saraki should answer three of the charges.
