Our reporter/ The Supreme Court is scheduled to deliver judgement on Thursday, October 26, 2023, in the cases of the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi; the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar and the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Bola Tinubu.
The PDP presidential candidate and his LP counterpart have lodged appeals challenging the September 6 ruling of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) that upheld Tinubu’s electoral victory.
The judgement date was confirmed by all parties involved on Wednesday.
However, many Nigerians took to the social media and expressed reservations over the unprecedented move by the apex court.
According to must of them, the fast-tracking of the judgement process means that the judges already had their minds made up even before the appeals were heard on Monday.
Below are some of the positions of some Nigerians on X formerly known as Twitter.
Pearls@Miss pearls The Supreme Court will deliver judgment TOMORROW (Thursday Oct 26th, 2023) for LP/Obi, Atiku/PDP Vs INEC, BAT/Shett and APC
The only clear reason the judgment is being delivered so fast is because it had been written even before we appeared at the Supreme Court!
Chima Echefu @Chimacoche It has been written before hearing the case.
They planned it all, stop the FBI and other agencies from releasing the documents, heard the cases and dismiss the cases ASAP.
M.O.B @Mycolado Distress judgement , na readymade .
Ben Bruce-Muray @benmurraybruce Whatever the judgment of the Supreme Court tomorrow, I hope that all parties to the election and the appeal accept it because the Supreme Court is final. After tomorrow, there must be no more political rancour. We should all unite and face the task of rescuing the economy, especially the Naira and undoing the damage the previous administration did.
We cannot be in election mode forever. Governing mode must now begin in earnest. We can resume partisanship in four years. From tomorrow, our squabbles must no longer be with each other but against insecurity, criminality, economic hardship and disunity.
Field Marshall of the han dynasty @General_oluchi The FBI files will be very useful to those who need it. The person who requested for it isn’t even a Nigerian nor does he have a case at the Supreme Court with Tinubu. He partnered with David Hundeyin, a journalist, to sue the law enforcement agencies, so whether the Supreme Court of Nigeria gives their ruling on the 26th or not, before the FBI files are released, it changes nothing for them. The Supreme Court has overwhelming local reasons aside the FBI files to disqualify Tinubu, so they should start from there. That’s how I see it.
Kelvin Odance@MrOdance Not really expecting anything from the supreme court other than the case against Tinubu getting dismissed. Not because they lack so much merit..but because this is Nigeria. Once someone gets sworn in as President, just forget it. It is gone. We try again 2027 and 2031.
Benkingsley Wishart @Benking 443 The Supreme Court has never delivered any judgement just 3 days after the hearing.
Why are they rushing to deliver judgement on a very bulky and extremely cogent matter which happens to be the most important Court case in Nigeria today.
JAYPEE@Jaypee general From this notice, it is clear that the Supreme Court had its judgement ready even before hearing Atiku’s motion to tender new evidence on Monday! Tomorrow, we will hear whatever they have to say. No one trusts them!
Engr Shaibu @MO_Shuiabu LP, PDP, and other political parties need to come up with nationwide protest schedules as soon as possible because it doesn’t look like the Supreme Court judges are ready to obey the 1999 constitution.
It is now or never!
There is power in number!!
DJ Sppiltkid @DJ_spoiltkid The Supreme Court of Nigeria has changed the judgement date from November 2nd to Thursday October 26th.
It’s now clear that the Supreme Court is compromised.
Akinwunmi Olumide @Lumidee120 Supreme Court decided to bring forward the JUDGMENT DAY and postpone the DOOM DAYS.
No matter how hard they try to beat the release date for the FBI report, the few Nigerians who still have their brains intact and their conscience not for sale will always know the truth and speak the truth.
