Uncertainty over NIN registration as NIMC shuts down Lagos office

By our reporter| The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) on Monday shut down its Lagos office after it was besieged by a crowd seeking to register for their National Identity Number (NIN).

After distributing forms to the enrollees, the process ended abruptly with officials explaining that the process was stopped following orders from above.

The development may not be unconnected with criticism that has trailed the decision of the NCC on NIN registration and deadline of December, 31 even as the country battles a second wave of the coronavirus outbreak.

The House of Representatives has since directed the NCC to extend the deadline for the registration by ten weeks.
