Unilag lecturer: What I know about our student who killed Super TV CEO

By our reporter| Dr. Bunmi Ajibade, a Senior Lecturer at Mass Communications Department of the University of Lagos, on Thursday said he has made some investigations about Chidinma Ojukwu, a murder suspect.

Ojukwu is currently being detained at the headquarters of the Lagos State Police Command in Ikeja over the murder of Usifo Ataga, the Chief Executive Officer of Super TV, whose lifeless body was found in a flat in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, with multiple wounds, on June 16.

The suspect was said to have fled the scene after committing the crime.

In a message he circulated on WhatsApp after news of the incident went viral, Ajibade said Ojukwu’s parents ought to have monitored her.

“We parents should pray for and monitor our children. There is so much evil going on in tertiary institutions now. Drugs, alcohol, and s*x have become the order of the day among adolescents.”

“As Coordinator of Part-Time programme, l have made some investigations about the lady. The last time she came to school was before Covid-19 lockdown. She has never written 300 Level exam with her cohorts.

“She has never stepped her feet on the soil of UNILAG since the commencement of this semester early last month. Yet, she was arrested in her father’s house.

“Were the parents sensitive enough to discover her truancy in school? Did they monitor her progress in school if they suspected something is amiss? How come they were apparently neglected that this calamity came upon them suddenly? Many questions are begging for answers.”

Chidinma had earlier on Thursday narrated how she stabbed the Chief Executive Officer of Super TV to death in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

According to the 300-level student of Mass Communication, she had been in a romantic relationship with Ataga for about four months before the ugly incident, adding that they were “having fun” when an argument broke out and she stabbed him twice.

She claimed that Ataga made a first attempt which was successful, noting that the unfortunate incident took place after she resisted a second attempt.

“We were in the lodge smoking. He was trying to make advances on me. I was tired and he became violent on it. I let him have his way.

“Towards afternoon, he ordered roofies. We took it together and ate food. He became high. I was still not happy with the first one (sex) that we had, so, I was staying on my own, smoking and drinking. He, too, was on his own. He came to me, and I told him I wasn’t happy with what he did,” the suspect recounted.

She added, “He was like, ‘Take my ATM and withdraw what you want’. He later became violent trying to get to me and I was resisting and defending myself. At some point, he hit my head on the wall and I also retaliated.”

According to Chidinma, Ataga began to chase her at some point in the kitchen where she took a knife and stabbed him in the neck.

She explained that the media mogul followed her as she approached the door before she stabbed him twice on the neck side again.

“I threw the knife to the bed, and he was going for it, but I also went for it. He dragged the knife with me and it broke, and he fell on the floor,” she narrated.

She further stated that after stabbing the late CEO, she withdrew N380,000 from his account using his ATM card.
