We Stand by Our Story: HumAngle confirm abduction of Brigade Commander by ISWAP

HumAngle, an online publication dedicated to covering conflicts in Africa says it can now confirm that the Brigade General M. Uba was abducted by ISWAP fighters last Saturday.

According to the publication, a verified image HumAngle has seen shows General M.Uba in the custody of ISWAP insurgents, with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Verification, it said, was carried out through detailed frame analysis, geolocation cross-checking, and confirmation from independent security sources familiar with the region and the incident.

“We can now confirm that the Brigade General M. Uba was abducted by ISWAP fighters as we reported on Saturday, abducted by members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). We stand by this reporting and have found photo evidence that he remains in ISWAP captivity” the publication said on Monday.

“ISWAP fighters last night ambushed a Nigerian military convoy, killing several soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF). In an unprecedented escalation, the insurgents abducted a Brigade Commander alongside other troops”.

“If confirmed, this would be the first recorded instance of any extremist group in Nigeria capturing a serving General directly from the frontline”.

Shortly after the report, the Nigerian military in statement described the report as fake news stating that General Uba led his team back to base after successfully repelling an ambush by the insurgents.
