Yusuf Bello| Josephine Okereke, the widow of the newspaper vendor shot and killed by a Department of State Services operative attached to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Thursday disowned her husband’s family over their N500m compensation demand.
Mrs Okereke who spoke at a press conference in Abuja, said she was not aware of the pre-litigation process.
She urged the Speaker to ignore the family and fulfil the promises he made to her and her two children.
The family of Ifeanyichukwu Okereke had earlier in the week written to Gbajabiamila, demanding N500m.
In a letter dated November 23, 2020, lawyer to the family, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), said he was mandated to write the letter by the father of the deceased, Okorie Okereke and the younger brother Destiny Okereke.
The late Okereke, a vendor in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja was recently killed by a DSS operative Abdullahi Hassan, attached to the Speaker of the House of Representative, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Hassan is currently in detention while Gbajabiamila in a visit to the family pledged to provide for the family.
