20 abducted NYSC members rescued by security operatives in Imo

Twenty prospective NYSC corps members abducted in Imo State have been rescued by security operatives, bringing an end to a six-day ordeal.

‎The victims were rescued at about 4:28 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, at Amakohia Ubi Village, following a sustained joint search-and-rescue operation by the Nigeria Police Force and sister security agencies.

‎According to the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the prospective corps members were abducted on October 1, 2026.

Police said the victims have been taken for medical examination and necessary treatment as part of the post-rescue process.
‎
While the rescue operation has secured the victims’ freedom, the security agencies are now intensifying efforts to track down and arrest those responsible for the abduction.

Anietie Iniedu, spokesperson of Nigeria Police Force (NPF), said in a statement that the operation that led to the rescue was carried out by a joint team of operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS), military and the police.

The Police commended members of the public for their cooperation and support, assuring Nigerians of continued efforts to protect lives and property.

“The victims were rescued on 7th October 2026 at Amakohia Ubi Village, Imo State, following sustained search-and-rescue operations. They have since been taken for medical assessment and necessary care,” the statement reads.

“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend those responsible for the abduction, as the Police and other security agencies sustain coordinated operations towards bringing all culpable persons to justice.

“The Nigeria Police Force appreciates members of the public for their cooperation and support and remains committed to the protection of lives and property, prompt response to security threats and continued collaboration with sister security agencies.”
