Only God will reward Abacha for transforming & stabilising Nigeria, says Al-Mustapha

By our reporter| Chief security officer to Nigeria’s late dictator, Sani Abacha, Hamza Al-Mustapha on Monday said that only God will reward the former military ruler who died in 1998, for stabilising and transforming the country.

Al-Mustapha who made the remark at the 22nd anniversary of the hated dictator, said his death is a big loss to the nation, and what he did for Nigeria will “not be forgotten in the annals of history and generations yet unborn”.

According to him, the late Abacha found only $200 million in the country’s foreign reserve when he took over power, and before he died, he was able to stabilise the economy and left over $900 billion in the reserve.

The former CSO to the late Abacha further stated that the dollar was sold at N85 during the dictators regime with no inflation despite even with all the challenges the country faced.

Al-Mustapha, however, noted that the late head of state is deliberately being smeared by some people who has consistently highlighted his bad sides at the expense of the good ones.

He said, “Only God will reward General Sani Abacha for the laudable initiative he made in transforming the country to an enviable height.”

Mustapha also touched on the ceedin of Bakasi to Cameroon by former heasd of state, Obasanjo and Abdulsalami Abubakar, stating he was aware of the conspiracy involved to deprive Nigeria of the oil rich Bakassi Peninsula.

“I participated in the war for good two years in Bakassi. I am quite aware of the quantum of crude oil deposit laying there especially the amount of crude oil deposit in Bakassi which is by far more than what obtained in present day Nigeria.”

Abacha’s regime was characterised by human rights violations which culminated inthe killing of late Ogini activist, Ken Saro-Wiwa and his kinsmen.

Years after his death, Nigeria has continued to recover monies looted and stashed away in various banks outside the country.
