The Abia State University management has reportedly suspended Dr Agbai Johnson Ukwa, H the HOD of Anatomy Department of the institution over extortion, alleged ‘sexual exploitation’ and other ‘strange activities’.
Ukwa was suspended on Tuesday.
Alex Onyia, the CEO of Educare, a prominent African education startup, had on May 9 in a post on his X handle reported that Dr Ukwa extorts his students before grading them or they must fail or get a missing script.
Onyia called on the state government to thouroughly investigate the allegations against the lecturer.
Following the development the Abia State government commenced investigation into the allegations against Dr Ukwa and others.
In a post on Tuesday, Onyia revealed that nvestigations so far have revealed that Dr Ukwa has been involved in grade sorting and other strange activities.
According to sources familiar with the probe, charges as high as N1.5m to pass MBBS exam.
The report further stated that the Abia State government has intensified its investigation and is reviewing results and mark sheets for all students in the University for the past 5 years.
Some graduates’ results, the report stated, may be cancelled after this investigation.
The report described the probe as the most thorough academic investigation at any Nigerian university so far.
