Security, intelligence chiefs head to Sokoto as bandits strike again in another community

By our reporter/ Days after the nationwide outrage over the burning of travellers by bandits in Sokoto, the hoodlums have invaded Kurawa village in Sabon Birni local government area of the state, killing at least, three persons.

The bandits, according to eyewitness accounts, invaded the village around 8pm on Thursday, shooting sporadically.

“They came during late night prayer, shooting sporadically. They killed three of our people and injured several others who are currently in the hospital,” a resident told a national publication.

Thursday’s attack took place few hours after the state governor, Aminu Tambuwal visited the area to condole families of the travellers burnt to death by bandits along Sabon birni-Isa road on Monday.

The Governor had announced a donation of N250,000 to each of the families.

Both the state government and the state police command are yet to comment on the incident.

Security, intelligence chiefs head to Sokoto, Katsina

Meanwhile, in a bid to curtail the ravaging attacks by the bandits, President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a high-level delegation, made up of the heads of the nation’s intelligence and security services, to Sokoto and Katsina States.

Presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, who made the disclosure in a statement on Friday, said Buhari is expecting an immediate situation report and recommendations on actions to follow to effectively deal with the worrying situation.

According to Shehu, the delegation led by the National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno (Rtd), included the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, the Director-General of the Department of State Service (DSS), Yusuf Magaji Bichi, the Director-General, National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Ahmed Rufa’i Abubakar and the Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI), Major General Samuel Adebayo.
