Aba residents recount ordeal after robbery attack

There was palpable fear Saturday night when some yet-to-be-identified gunmen attacked residents of Nwala Street in Aba, Abia State and made away with cash and property worth thousands of naira.

It was gathered that the hoodlums inflicted machete injuries on some of their victims who were mostly students of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba.

Narrating their ordeal, a resident of the commercial city who pleaded anonymity told Southern City News that the residents had already gone to bed when the hoodlums struck.

He said, “We were sleeping when the incident happened. The robbers attacked our area at about 2am Saturday night”.

Another resident said, “We heard a bang on the door and saw a torchlight that almost blinded our eyes; immediately after, the hoodlums ordered us to surrender our money, ATM cards and their passwords, laptops, mobile phones and jewelries.

“They inflicted injuries on some of us with their knives while they forced us to disclose our ATM card pin code”.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in Abia State ASP, Ogbonaya Nta, said the incident had not been reported to the Police.
