A’ibom 2023: Uyo Senatorial district leaders sues for peace, demands transparent primaries

Chidi Tony| Uyo Senatorial District Leaders Forum (USDLF) comprising stakeholders and leaders of thought from nine local governments under Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District has called for the transparent conduct of coming party primaries in the state to avoid heating up the polity.

This was part of the resolution reached after the meeting of the group held weekend at La-Mems Hotel and Suite, Uyo, Akwa Ibom state chaired by its Leader Obong Engr. Ofiong Usen Akpabio and Obong Kingsley Peters Secretary-General.

USDLF in a statement made available to journalists in Uyo advised that political discourse on the forthcoming 2023 general elections, pertaining to the Governorship, Senate, House of Representatives, and State Houses of Assembly be conducted maturely without rancor in accordance with the tenets of democracy to avoid heating up the polity.

The Forum which advocates the application of decorum while discussing issues and proposed programmes further demanded broadening of the political space to accommodate all shades of views and interests.

They believe it will promote participation, bring about greater sense of belonging as well as ensure peace and tranquility in the Senatorial District, Akwa Ibom State, and Nigeria as a whole.

The Forum also prayed for the unity, peace, and continued growth of the Akwa Ibom North East (Uyo) Senatorial District, Akwa Ibom State, and Nigeria as a whole throughout the political campaigns and the 2023 General elections and beyond

USDLF used the occasion to commend Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, Governor of Akwa Ibom State for the prevalence of peace in the State and for the numerous developmental projects of his administration and called for a collaborative support with Government in order to accelerate the success of its Completion Agenda.
