Akwa Ibom Kick-starts Fertilizer Production

Tony Okoh || Akwa Ibom farmers would have fertilizer in abundance from May this year, as the State’s automated fertilizer blending plant will come on stream, Governor Udom Emmanuel, has said.

The fertilizer plant is sited in Abak Local Government Area of the state after a formidable team of extension workers was formed to get feedback on challenges and needs of farmers through their various zones and cells.

The State Governor dropped the hint yesterday while addressing Akwa Ibom people at the Special Inter-denominational Solemn Assembly to Usher in Year 2018 and to Re-Dedicate Akwa Ibom to God.

The event which has since become like a yearly ‘ritual’, attracted past and serving leaders from the State, members of the National Assembly, members of the three arms of Government from Akwa Ibom, Clergymen, Traditional Rulers and political groups to the Ibom Hall grounds, venue of the epochal occasion.

Governor Emmanuel who thanked God for blessing Akwa Ibom despite the current economic crisis in the Country, said, his government has since moved to revolutionise agriculture to ensure prosperity and job creation for the youth in the State.

“When many States in the Country are struggling and their workers counting the number of months their salaries have not been paid, in Akwa Ibom we are counting the number of Local Government Areas that life-touching projects will be inaugurated”, said the governor.

Mr. Emmanuel used the occasion to plead those he referred to as “mischief-makers” to refrain from acts capable of destroying peace and tranquility Akwa Ibom people are currently enjoying.

Regretting that Akwa Ibom is not enjoying any benefit of being the largest producer of the Nation’s wealth, Governor Emmanuel called on the Federal Government to consider construction of railway that will link coastal areas in the State, amongst other life-touching projects.

The State Chief Executive pronounced quantum blessings for the people of Akwa Ibom and however, urged them to have hope and faith in God that things would turn around for the better, adding that “better times are coming with the New Year”.

The Inter-denominational church service featured songs, Praise, and Worship, Choir rendition as well as Special Prayers for people of the State by Governor Udom Emmanuel.
