Former Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has praised the Anambra state government for managing the economy effectively.
During an event to celebrate the third anniversary of Willie Obiano, Anambra State Governor, Soludo described the state’s economy as the fourth largest in Nigeria. He noted that, though, not an oil-producing state, Anambra’s economy has been properly managed, making it the largest economy behind Lagos, Abuja, and Rivers states.
He noted that Gov. Obiano’s ability to attract investors into Anambra was one of the reasons for the state’s economic success.
Soludo used the occasion to clear the air on speculations that he might be running for governor in the November 18 election in the state. Soludo had previously, in 2013, contested at the gubernatorial elections in Anambra State under the All Progressives Grand Alliance, which he lost.
“If Anambra is not broken, why mend it?” Soludo said, in reaction to the speculation.
“There is no need for change at the moment. Anambra is the fourth largest economy in Nigeria behind Lagos, Abuja and Rivers. The private sector must play a role to shore up the country’s earnings.
“We are in a crisis moment and you don’t change a general in the middle of the war; in Anambra, Obiano is a general.’’
The former CBN Governor also said that the Federal Government’s attention was needed to expedite the second Niger Bridge and other federal road projects in the state.
