Ebun Francis || Another member of the house of representatives elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Johnson Agbonayima from Edo state on Thursday defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Yakubu Dogara, speaker of the house read Agbonayima’s defection letter at a plenary of the house.
In his letter, the Edo state lawmaker accused the opposition PDP of “shutting its doors” against him and other loyalists of Ali Modu Sheriff, former chairman of the party.
His defection is coming on the heels of Nnanna Igbokwe’s defection from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Peoples Congress earlier in the week.
Igbokwe, the Imo state lawmaker had cited “division” in the PDP as his reasons for leaving.
Philip Shuaibu, deputy governor of Edo state, was present during the session.
He is the seventh PDP lawmaker to decamp from the opposition PDP to the ruling APC in 2017.
