Not less than 20 people, including a family of 13, were reportedly killed on Tuesday by suspected bandits in an attack on Bakali village, Fika district of Giwa local government area of Kaduna state.
A resident of the community who did not want his identity revealed told an Online publication said local guards and hunters in the village had mobilised to launch an attack on the gunmen in their hideout but they were ambushed on the way.
The gunmen killed some of the vigilante members and pursued others to the village where they started shooting at people and burning houses.
The bandits reportedly locked 13 members of a family in a room and set fire to the house.
Muhammad Jalige, spokesman of the state police command, could not confirm the incident to newsmen but promised to investigate.
