Breaking… (updated) Dortmund team bus hit by explosion, match cancelled

UEFA has postponed by 24 hours Tuesday’s champions league between Borussia Dortmund and AS Monaco. The postponement followed the explosion that hit Borussia Dortmund football team bus taking the team to Tuesday’s a Champions League match with AS Monaco.

The teams french player, 26 years Marc Bartra was injured and has been taken to the hospital.

North-Rhine Westphalia police said they were at the scene and there are reports that the fire service is also there.

The attack took place as the squad tried to leave their hotel, L’Arrivee, for the six-mile trip to the stadium – Signal Iduna Park.

A police statement said: ‘As reported, there were three explosions near the Dortmund team bus on [Tuesday] evening.

‘According to the first findings, the police are investigating an attack with serious explosions.

‘The explosives could have been hidden in a hedge near a car park.’

Dortmund’s backup goalkeeper Roman Buerki was at the back of the bus beside Bartra as the team bus pulled out of the driveway.

‘There was a huge bang, literally an explosion,’ he told Swiss newspaper, Blick.

He confirmed that the players had ducked for cover as they pre-empted further explosions.
