President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the relevant ministries responsible for handling the welfare of the country’s female National team, the Super Falcons to pay to them without further delay all entitlements accrued to them for winning the just-concluded CAF African Women Cup of Nations in Cameroon. Mr. Abba Kyari, the chief of staff to the President, disclosed this to State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The Chief of Staff conveyed the President’s directive to the players who staged a protest to the gate of the Presidential Villa on Wednesday also informed the players that the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, and the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Solomon Dalung, had been directed to ensure they are paid latest Thursday.
According to Kyari, “The problem has been resolved. The players did us proud. I congratulated them for the feat they achieved.
“I have also told them that all their entitlements will be paid latest by Thursday.
“We have called the Minister of Finance as well as the Minister of Youths and Sports. They will be paid by tomorrow (Thursday). The details, I don’t know.”
The Super Falcons, who are owed bonuses and allowances by the Nigeria Football Federation, have been protesting since they won the African Women’s Cup of Nations in Cameroon for the 8th time.
