President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday ordered investigation of corruption allegations levelled against some top officials of his administration. The president also reiterated his administrations commitment not to relent in the fight against corruption in the country
President Buhari’s directive was contained in a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.
According to the statement, “The attention of the presidency has been drawn to a number of reports in the media, in which various accusations of corruption have been levelled against some top officials in the administration.
“In that regard, President Buhari has instructed the Attorney General of the Federation to investigate the involvement of any top government officials accused of any wrong-doing. If any of them are liable they will not escape prosecution.”
There have been recent allegations of corruption against the Secretary to the Government of the Federation over disbursement of funds for the the welfare of internally displaced persons in the South East, a situation that lead to calls for his resignation by the Senate last week. Also, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) could not be confirmed last week by senate on grounds of a controversial letter believed to have been written by the Department of State Security accusing him of corruption among other things.
