The Governor of Nigeria’s central bank, Mr. Godwin Emefiele on Thursday met with President Mohammadu Buhari at the presidential villa, Abuja.
Speaking to newsmen at the end of the meeting, Emefiele said that the meeting with the president was to brief him on the stability of the forex market in the country as well as other activities the bank is involved in.
The Apex bank Governor said the President was delighted with the progress the bank has achieved in the monetary policy sector of the economy.
According to Emefiele, ”Basically, as it is expected what we normally do is from time to time to brief the President about activities about the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).”
“Particularly at this time as it relates to the efforts that the central bank is doing to stabilise the forex market.
“We briefed him regarding the activities so far and he was delighted to hear that the market is stabilising at the level that it is right now.
“I am saying the parallel market which currently stabilizes at between N380 and N385.”
The central bank Governor attributed the stability in the foreign exchange to the increase in the crude oil production and export.
Emefiele is the third high-ranking official in the administration to meet with the President who is currently recuperating from an undisclosed illness. The other two are The Attorney General of the country and the Group Managing Director of NNPC.
