Certificate forgery: Supreme Court sack Reps member

The judgement by Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court Abuja on February 8, 2016, sacking Mr. Christian Abah, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadigbo Federal Constituency of Benue State, over a forged certificate of academic qualification to the Independent National Electoral Commission was affirmed by the Supreme Court on Friday.

The court found Mr Abah guilty of forging an Ordinary National Diploma certificate allegedly issued to him in 1985 by the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, Adamawa State, thus constitutionally disqualified to contest the National Assembly elections.
The five-man panel led by Justice Mary Peter-Odili dismissed the ruling of the Appeal Court which had earlier squashed the forgery allegation and affirmed the judgement by Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court Abuja on February 8, 2016.

The court has asked INEC to issue a fresh certificate of returns to Mr. Hassan Saleh, first runner-up in the Peoples Democratic Party’s primary election held on December 6, 2014 in place of Mr Abah.

Other Justices on the panel include, Justices Clara Ogunbiyi, Chima Nweze, Amina Augie and Justice Bage.
