The thought of having sex in a moving car while one party is still attempting to drive sounds like an incredibly dangerous thing to do, and this recent story proves as much.
31-year-old Amanda Notebaert had been out drinking with her husband, 34-year-old Matthew Notebaert, near their Florida home in March 2014 when the couple began having sex during the drive home.
As you can imagine, driver Matthew wasn’t able to maintain full concentration on the road while he was having sex, and it inevitably caused a car crash. According to The Palm Beach Post, the couple’s car hit the canal bank “so hard… the SUV went airborne for 30 feet.
Matthew Notebaert, 33, had been driving his wife Amanda, 31, back home after a concert in Loxahatchee, Florida, when the couple started getting intimate behind the wheel.
Both were naked from the waist down and Amanda had been sitting on his lap when the tragedy happened at around 12.30am.
The mum-of-two died after her head hit the dashboard and windscreen.
A toxicology report found Notebaert’s blood alcohol level was almost twice Florida’s legal limit, and he also had marijuana in his system.
A court heard how it was Amanda’s first night out since giving birth to their second child, Stacey, and they drank whiskey from a small flash they sneaked into the show.
Notebaert remembered getting intimate with Amanda when he pulled over on the way home and her sitting on his lap when he set off again.
But he could not remember what happened next until he woke up next to her body in the crashed Chevrolet Equinox on March 8, 2014.
Notebaert, whose legs were severely injured in the crash, tearfully told the court: ‘I miss her more than words express.’
He pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to vehicular homicide and drunken driving.
Amanda’s parents Mike and Lisa Stacey demanded the ‘maximum allowable sentence’ for Notebaert after telling him: ‘You had a responsibility to get your wife home safely.’
Notebaert’s lawyer Stephen Bell asked for him to be spared jail and given probation so he could be with his son, 12, and daughter, now three.
But Judge Johnson said Notebaert had a criminal history, including burglary, theft and possessing drugs. He had also been accused of reckless driving and leaving the scene of a crash.
Sentencing him to five years behind bars, the Judge told him: ‘This isn’t your first chance. You’ve been to jail before, you’ve been on probation.
‘You failed your wife, you failed your children and you failed all your family that is here today.’
