Court cannot stop your probe, Saraki warns IGP

Chidi Samuel || Senate President Bukola Saraki on Thursday said that the Inspector General of Police, Idris Ibrahim cannot stop the National Assembly from performing its statutory function.

The Senate President made the remark after Francis Alimikhena, the chairman of the Senate committee investigating the corruption allegation levelled against the Police hierarchy by Senator Isa Misau informed members of the refusal of the IGP to appear before his committee.

Saraki said, “As the chief law enforcement officer, he should know what the law is and he should know that he cannot stop the Senate from doing its job. There are several judicial pronouncements on this issue and I expect him to know these things.”

“He should be advised to do the right thing and appear before the senate. If he has nothing to hide, he should appear before the committee like any other Nigerian.”

According to Saraki, as the chief law enforcement officer, the IGP should know the law.
