Court nullifies creation of four additional Kano emirates

Yusuf Bello| A Kano State High Court on Thursday nullified the creation of four additional Emirates in Kano by the state government state.

Ruling in the suit filed by former minority leader of the State House of Assembly, Nasiru Muhammad challenging the creation of the emirates, presiding judge, Justice Usman Na’abba said the creation of the Emirates and subsequent appointment of four new first class Emirs did not follow due process.

The presiding also dismissed all the objections on an earlier preliminary by the defendants challenging the jurisdiction of the court to handle the case.

According to him, the plaintiff, who is a former minority leader of the state assembly is within is rights to file the suit.

It will be recalled Governor Abdullahi Ganduje had earlier in May, following its passage by the state house of assembly, assented the bill seeking the establishment of four additional first class Emirates – Rano, Gaya, Karaya, and Bichiin – in Kano State.

He subsequently presented letters of appointment to the four new first-class Emirs.
