Delta State records six suspected cases of monkeypox

Ebun Francis || Delta State, South-South Nigeria has recorded six suspected cases of the strange viral disease monkeypox.

The six suspected cases were recorded in Agbor, a town close to the state capital, Asaba.

The state commissioner for health, Dr. Nicholas Azinge confirmed the development on Thursday.

According to Azinge, three of the suspected cases have been treated and discharged while two are still receiving treatment at the federal medical centre, Asaba.

The commissioner said that samples from the patients have been sent to the World Health Organisation Laboratory in Senegal for confirmation.

The outbreak of the monkeypox virus was first reported in Bayelsa State earlier this month and the federal government last week through the minister of health confirmed three of the suspected cases after confirmation from the WHO laboratory in Senegal.
