DSS, Falana trade words over delay in the release of Sowore

The Department of State Services on Thursday denied claims that the agency is refusing to obey the directive of a Federal High Court which ordered the release of the convener of #RevolutionNow movement, Omoyele Sowore.

Dr Peter Afunanya, DSS spokesman, who said that the DSS remains a law-abiding agency, committed to the rule of law, told Channels Television, that Femi Falana, counsel Sowore is yet to perfect the conditions for his release.

But reacting to the claim on Thursday night, Femi Falana said it is an insult for the Department of State Services to say that it did not receive copies of a Federal High Court order directing it to immediately release Sowore.

According to him, the DSS’s position suggests that it is not ceased of the facts in the court’s order.

Falana further stated that the court asked his client to deposit his passports with the court which has been done and that for the past three days he has been at the DSS office for hours to effect the release of his client which the court ordered should be released to him.

He, therefore, wondered what other conditions the DSS is demanding to be met.

A federal high court in Abuja on Tuesday ordered the release of Sowore, the convener of the #RevolutioNow movement following the withdrawal of some charges against him by the federal government.
