Signs that the Nigerian economy is on the bounce are written all over Apapa port terminal quaysides as the berths are all dotted with heavily laden vessels.
Apapa Bulk Terminal berths will receive and discharge cargo from Desert Symphony and Desert Ranger carrying 27,000 and 48,000 metrics tonnes of bulk fertilizer and bulk wheat respectively, essentials in agriculture and cuisine sectors of the economy. As usual it is an in-house logistics affair handled by Golden Shipping, an arm of the mega company, Flour Mills of Nigeria, consignee of the cargoes.
Other shipping agencies that are busy on the 20th of June are fast growing indigenous shipping company, Ocean Glory helping to discharge 22,000 metric tonnes of bulk corn off Ocean Diamond at ENL terminal D in Apapa Port Complex. GMTS will also handle steel products from MV Resolute Bay at ENL terminal on Wednesday 21st June.
Container masters PIL have five container laden vessels to handle at APMT all through the next ten days June – July, signaling a boom in cargo throughput and a signpost of a waking economy.
