…Aisha Buhari too
Yusuf Bello|Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai on Thursday went down on his knees and begged the people of Kogi state to forgive governor Yahaya Bello and re-elect him for a second term in office.
The outspoken Kaduna state governor who made the gesture at a mega rally held for the governor in the state capital Lokoja, described Yahaya Bello as a young man, who is supposed to make mistakes.
El-Rufai equally praised the Kogi state governor for his performance and urged the people to “bury PDP once and for all”.
“Many people say Yahaya Bello is young and that he has fought many people. For every one that the governor has offended, I am asking all of you to forgive him. He is young, he is supposed to make mistakes. When you are young, you make mistakes, but you are supposed to learn from him. On his behalf, I am kneeling down to beg all of you to forgive Yahaya Bello if he has offended you.”
“In the past four years, the progress recorded by the APC government under Governor Yahaya Bello is more than what the PDP has tried to do in 13 years.”
“Yahaya Bello cares about this state, he has brought progress to this state, he has brought young people into government, he has brought women into government. He has brought physical progress; he has cleared salary arrears that he inherited from previous governments.
“You must all come out and support him. I beg you all,” he concluded.
Also speaking shortly after the Kaduna state governor, first lady, Aisha Buhari, asked the people of the state who were affected by the late payment of salaries to forgive the governor, urging them to forget what they once suffered.
According to the first lady, Bello was unable to pay salaries because of the verification exercise that was organised for civil servants in the state.
Aisha said, “Let me refer back to Kaduna State governor’s speech where he had to kneel and say the people should forgive and forget.
“Also, my husband used to emphasise on salaries. It took a while before the Kogi salaries could be settled after a long time of verification.
“But this time, vote for him for continuity of payment of salary on time.”
The first lady later invited governor Bello to the podium, saying, “I want Yahaya Bello to talk to you about timely payment of salary.”
Addressing the crowd, the governor said, “We have been paying on time. “The civil servants can attest to that.
“Your Excellency, you directed, you supported and we cleared the salary arrears and we shall continue to pay on time.”
Among those who canvassed support for the Kogi governor at the rally ahead of Saturday’s election were the national chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole and wife of the vice president Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo.
