El-rufai N2bn defamation suit against Shehu Sani

Chidi Samuel || Kaduna state governor, Nasir el Rufai on Friday filed an N2 billion suit against Shehu Sani, the senator representing Kaduna central senatorial district in the National Assembly.

El Rufai who has a history with the senator personally filed the suit at the Kaduna state high.

The governor is seeking reliefs for alleged injuries suffered as a result of “malicious statements” made by Sani.

According to him, the senator defamed him by referring to him as a “drunk, loose cannon and an embarrassment to President Muhammadu Buhari”.

Such “derogatory remarks” made against him, he said, are totally false and injurious to his person in the eyes of the public.

Abdulhakeem Mustapha, counsel to el-Rufai, while briefing newsmen after filing the suit, dismissed insinuations that the governor, by virtue of his position, does not have the constitutional right to sue any citizen.
