Elder statesman Maitama Sule is dead

Maitama Sule one of Nigeria’s surviving elder statesman is dead.

The two-time federal minister and Nigeria’s former representative at the United Nations passed away at a hospital in Cairo Egypt after he was flown out from Nasarrawa hospital Kano where Doctors diagnosed him with cold and chest infection.

He was aged 88 years.

The late Elder statesman, also known by his traditional title, Danmasanin KanoBorn was born in 1929 in the old city of Kano. He was minister of mines and power during the first republic administration of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa and in 1983  was appointed minister for national guidance by President Shehu Shagari.

Mr. Sule’s remains is expected back to the country on Tuesday and the funeral prayers would take place at Kano Emir’s Palace before interment.
