FG confirms only three cases of monkeyox virus in Bayelsa

Chidi Samuel || The federal government on Monday confirmed three of the thirteen suspected cases of monkeypox sent to World Health Organisation Laboratory in Dakar Senegal from Bayelsa State for analysis.

Professor Adewole, the minister of health made the disclosure at a press conference in Abuja.

Adewole also confirmed that four results from the 43 suspected cases reported from other states including Lagos, Akwa Ibom, and Ekiti states were negative.

Also speaking at the press conference, Chikwe Ihekweazu, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, called for calm among citizens.

Ihekweazu noted that so far, there are no confirmed cases of the virus outside Bayelsa State.

It will be recalled that last week after the Federal Government, through the minister of Health said the reported cases of the disease in some parts of the country were suspicion unless confirmed after laboratory tests.
