FG, striking doctors meeting ends in deadlock

Chidi Samuel || The meeting between the Federal Government Negotiation Team and the striking National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, ended in deadlock on Thursday morning.

The meeting which started about 2:30 pm on Wednesday after the preliminary meeting between the government team and leaders of Resident Doctors could not achieve the desired result.

The ill tempered meeting saw the representatives of the striking doctors storm out of the meeting to consult with the members on the position of the government.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige made frantic efforts to ensure that the Resident Doctors called off the strike but the doctors insisted that their unpaid salaries must be settled in full before the strike will be called off.

At about 1 am Thursday, with the meeting still inconclusive the parties unanimously resolved that the nationwide industrial action should be suspended as soon as the payment alert is received from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as promised by the Federal Government’s team.
