The Federal Capital Prison Authority on Friday confirmed that there was a fire outbreak at Kuje Medium Prisons.
The fire which started at the prison’s clinic was reportedly put off vigilant workers on duty and no life was lost.
Humphrey Chukwuedo, the FCT prison command spokesman said in a statement that inmates were not in the facility at the time of the incident.
He said, “Although the cause of the fire is not immediately known, it is suspected that the smoke may have emanated from faulty electrical equipment stored in an adjoining building used for teaching inmates handiwork.”
The statement added that detailed investigation had commenced as instructed by the controller of prisons FCT command, S. Nwakuche.
“The prison yard is calm and peaceful and everyone is going about their business,” he added.
