Gunmen burn another Police station in Imo, free detainees

Chidi Samuel| A day after gunmen attacked the Imo Police Command Headquarters and The Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) in Owerri, the Imo state capital, a group of armed men invaded another police facility in the state on Tuesday.

Tuesday’s attack was carried out on the Divisional Police Headquarters in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area – just about an hour-and-a-half drive from the state capital.

According to eyewitness accounts, the gunmen, who came in buses and in a large number, arrived at the police station and freed all the suspects in detention before setting the building ablaze.

Orlando Ikeokwu, Imo police spokesperson, confirmed the attack on the police division to NAN.

He, however, added that no death was recorded during the invasion.
