Hoops & Read made a statement in their debut into the Kwese Premier Basketball League by wining back-to-back games against Police Baton and NAF Rockets.
In their first game in the PBL, Hoops & Read pulled away with a 64-58 win against the Police Baton as the season began on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium Surulere, Lagos.
The rigours often associated with playing back-to-back games did not affect their performance in their second game as they handed the NAF Rockets a 71-69 defeat to move up 2-0.
Prior to their debut in the PBL, Hoops & Read, founded by former captain of Nigeria D’Tigers, had a perfect run in the National Division I Championship last November, where they qualified for the big league in an 8-0 run.
In other games played in Week One of the Kwese PBL, Kwara Falcons handed a 63-50 defeat to Nigeria Customs on the back of Oyeleye Mojuba’s 14 points and 4 rebounds.
