Hours after Buhari’s visit, Boko Haram again attacks Maiduguri

Yusuf Bello| Hours after the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, Boko Haram members once again launched an attack in the city.

Residents of Jiddari Polo, on the outskirts of Maiduguri, began to flee into the city centre through Polo and Damboa road following the attack by the terror group.

According to residents, the shooting rented the air for nearly an hour as the insurgents set some houses ablaze.

Ba’Bulama Jiddari, a leader of a vigilante group in the area, told an Online publication on Wednesday night that they were under attack but that the insurgents were repelled by soldiers who later arrived at the scene.

He said, “It was not a bomb blast but a serious attack. A house has been completely burnt down. We are still here trying to see if there is any casualty.”

According to a member of the Civilian-JTF, the insurgents came through an entrance that was once manned by soldiers.

“The attack wouldn’t have been possible if the soldiers had not left that”, he said.
