Ifeanyi Uba freed by DSS

The Managing Director of Capital Oil and Gas Limited, Mr. Ifeany Uba, detained by the Department of State Security (DSS) for the past five weeks has been released.

Uba accused by the DSS of diverting N11bn worth of petroleum products kept in capital oil’s tank farm was released on Monday, according to his aide, Ikechukwu Onyia.

The Business man’s detention, accused of economic sabotage by the DSS was subjected to contradicting court orders following Uba’s challenge of detention at a Lagos High Court.

A federal high court in Lagos ordered the DSS to release Ubah.

Mohammed Idris, the presiding judge, ordered the security agency to release him “unconditionally within 48 hours”.

Shortly after, a federal high court in Abuja, in another ruling, gave the agency a go-ahead to detain him for another 14 days.

The circumstances surrounding his release by the DSS is still shrouded in secrecy as at the time of this report.
