I inherited a rotten and failed state – Gov Okorocha

Everest Ezihe || Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State as part of his 2017 Democracy Day Speech said he inherited rots and failed state in 2011 and this prompted his christening his administration, ”A Rescue Mission.”
Governor Okorocha said this on Monday at the new Governor’s Lodge, Owerri while addressing journalists in the state on the achievements of his administration, the prospects, and challenges as he has saddled the affairs of the heartland state for the past six years.
According to him “I inherited people subjected to stylish poverty and deceit, IMO people were in chain prior to 2011, a lot of ritual killings, intimidation, and harassment of the people by their subjects in terms of cultism was unprecedented.
The schools were in shambles, no street light, kidnapping and criminal activities was so high, erosion menace was alarming, no functional hospital, shanties here and there, all socio-economic activities were nightmares, no event places, many school children dropped out of school. Worldbank credited the state poverty rate to 65%. There was no peace and stability. This was the situation, thus why I christened my Government Rescue Mission administration with a focused mission of rescuing the people from ignorance, poverty, and deceit to prosperity, trust and confidence in governance” he informed.
The governor who said he has re-named the state seat of power-Douglas House to People’s House noted that he preferred honour to wealth and the essence of his hard work is for history to vindicate him positively.
Okorocha noted Owerri capital city as one of the fastest growing state capital outside Lagos and Abuja in terms of infrastructural developments and transformations.
He expressed his willingness to re-locate Nigeria Prison, the State Police Headquarters, and Red Cross just to expand the State Government House and noted his administration as having prudent financial disciplines in projects management and administrative activities.
The Governor also informed of his efforts to create two new Ministries that is the Ministry of Niger Delta to be located at Ohaji Egbema and Ministry of Tourism to be sited at Oguta as well as plans to decentralize the state Ministries in line with the expectations of the three senatorial zones.
On the area of employment and youths empowerment, he noted that his administration has employed over 3,000 youths, given monetary empowerment to over 6,000 women, offered over 6,000 youths to the state Civil Service and local Government Services Commission employment.
