Senator Isiaka Adeleke, Osun West Senator and first civilian governor of Osun State, reportedly died from drug overdose, according to latest information probing the cause of his death.
Adeleke was said to have consumed an overdose of painkillers administered to him by an unqualified medical practitioner.
The deceased senator was said to have been given the drugs on Saturday after he complained of pains in his legs after a tortuous day of political events across the state. He woke up the following morning complaining of chest pain and had a heart attack shortly after. His aides rushed him to Biket Hospital in Oshogbo where he was pronounced dead.
Some irate youths in his hometown of Ede, Osun State, have been rioting, while alleging that the late senator was poisoned by his enemies in a bid to prevent him from contesting in the 2018 gubernatorial election.
Adeleke’s younger brother, Deji Adeleke, ordered that an autopsy be carried out to ascertain the cause of death, which was discovered to be heart attack as a result of drug overdose.
