Former governor of Delta state, James Ibori has arrived Oghara, his home town in Delta State South-South Nigeria to a tumultuous welcome.
The former Delta State Governor arrived Abuja, early today with a British Airways flight after a British court gave him the green-light to leave the Uk yesterday after serving his jail term for fraud. He was picked up on arrival by men of the State Security Department and released after a meeting with officials of the agency.
His arrival today still caught many loyal aides by surprise, though Ibori had told Reuters and BBC earlier in the week that he would return within days to Nigeria.
Ibori was jailed for money laundering, an offence for which his wife, lawyer and some close relations were also jailed.
Born on Aug. 4, 1959, Ibori was the governor of Delta from May 29, 1999 to May 29, 2007 on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)
