The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday released the final list of candidates for the governorship elections with no candidates for the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in Rivers and Zamfara states.
The party primaries of the ruling party in both states were marred by crisis and the various combatants headed to court following the inability of the national leadership of the party to resolve the crises.
Rivers state APC have their case pending in the supreme court following the ruling by the court of appeal, Port Harcourt division that the party cannot field candidates for the forthcoming elections.
In the case of Zamfara, two conflicting judgments by a federal high court in Abuja and another in Zamfara apparently forced the hands of INEC to put on hold any plan of announcing any candidate for the ruling party.
The controversy over the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate was finally rested with the listing of Buruji Kashamu as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
