Kim Kardashian files for divorce from Kanye West

Kim Kardashian has filed for divorce from her husband Kanye West after nearly seven years of marriage, Fox News can confirm.

Sources close to the situation say it’s amicable.

TMZ obtained documents on Friday that reveal the reality TV queen, 40, is asking for joint legal and physical custody of the couple’s four kids: North, 7, Saint, 5, Chicago, 3, and Psalm, 1.

West, 43, is reportedly not objecting.

Kardashian’s lawyer, Laura Wasser, filed the docs and there’s no date of separation listed but there is a prenup in place which both are expected to honor.

Wasser is a well-known divorce attorney in Hollywood and frequently oversees starry splits, commonly known as the “Disso Queen.”

Reports of reasoning for the divorce have varied, with sources previously claiming that their politics, lifestyle, Calabasas home, and even the rapper’s surprisingly brief attendance at her lavish birthday party last year have all been points of contention.

News of the stars’ split first broke back in January.

When the reports initially surfaced in Jan., E! News reported that Kardashian had not yet filed divorce paperwork because she wanted to ensure that she was “making the right decision for the kids,” according to an insider.

TMZ also reports the two have been living separately for a few months and that their relationship was “in deep trouble for the last half of 2020,” with the pair reportedly in marriage counseling.

In Jan., a source told Page Six that “Kim got Kanye to go up there [to Wyoming] so they could live separate lives and quietly get things sorted out to separate and divorce. She’s done.”

West owns a ranch in Wyo., while Kardashian remained with her family in Calif.

Trouble in paradise between the two was first reported over the summer when West announced his candidacy for president in the 2020 election. Despite his high-profile run, he ended up having little effect on the election.

During what Kardashian later implied was an episode brought on by his bipolar disorder, West brought up the possibility of divorcing his wife at a campaign event while claiming they considered aborting their first child.

“Even if my wife wants to divorce me after this speech, she brought North into the world even when I didn’t want to,” West told a crowd while crying, according to People magazine.

In a since-deleted tweet, the “Power” rapper also claimed that he’d been “trying” to divorce Kardashian ever since she attended a prison reform event with Meek Mill in 2018.

In the same rant, he also shaded Kardashian’s past Playboy spread and claimed that the reality star’s mother, Kris Jenner, was no longer allowed to see his children.

He later apologized for the Twitter rant but the ordeal reportedly left Kardashian “furious.”

In July, it was reported that the couple had been considering divorce for weeks and that Kardashian and her famous family were “shielding” her children from their father’s public outbursts.

Later that month, the stars were spotted having an emotional conversation in Wyo.

The two began dating in 2012 and confirmed their relationship by appearing at public events together.

West also name-checked his future wife in his song “Cold,” and seemingly also referenced Ray J, the hip-hop star whose sex tape with Kardashian leaked in 2002.

“And I’ll admit, I had fell in love with Kim / Around the same time she had fell in love with him,” West raps in the tune. “Well that’s cool, baby girl, do ya thang / Lucky I ain’t had Jay drop him from the team.”

They had their first child, North, in 2013. West proposed later that year using the giant screen at the empty waterfront ballpark of the San Francisco Giants, and they married May 24, 2014, in a ceremony at a Renaissance fortress in Florence, Italy.

Their second child, Saint, came in late 2015 and the birth of their third, Chicago, was announced in early 2018. In 2019, they welcomed their fourth, Psalm. Their latter two children were born via surrogate.

The marriage was West’s first and Kardashian’s third. She was first married to music producer Damon Thomas from 2000-2004, then to basketball pro Chris Humphries from 2011-2013, though she filed for divorce just 72 days after their wedding.

While their marriage was extremely high profile in some ways as two experts in self-promotion became a team, the two did not appear together in public all that frequently. And the inner workings of their marriage were usually a well-guarded secret that took years to spill out into public view. On “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” West appeared only occasionally, mostly serving as an oft-discussed off-screen character, and unlike other Kardashian couplings, viewers didn’t see even made-for-TV versions of fights or especially tender moments.

That didn’t stop fans from globbing onto their every move, however, as they famously took a trip to Jerusalem for North’s baptism and traveled to France where Kardashian was bound and robbed.

Kardashian has developed an interest in law and reportedly plans to take the bar exam in the future, Page Six’s insider said earlier this year. She’s devoted a relatively large amount of attention to prison reform. She’s recently visited death row inmates Julius Jones and Brandon Bernard, even calling on former President Trump to commute the latter’s execution.

West has moved beyond music and into fashion as well. He’s the creator of the popular Yeezy fashion brand.
